Featured on Design By Women
Well, this one was a tick for my bucket list. I’ve been following Design By Women for quite a few years and recently I had the pleasure to be interviewed by the founder, the amazing Mary Hemingway.
We spoke about my career, how I deal with set backs and the learnings of having my own studio.
Here’s the summary of our chat:
Independent Brand Consultant and Designer Teresa Ferreira has recently transitioned to full-time freelancing. After earning an MA in Archaeological Illustration, she gained experience as a print and digital designer, specialising in branding, before advancing to a senior designer position at the Financial Times. A year later, she became Head of Design, where she spent six years refining her skills in design, branding, and art direction.
Teresa's non-traditional path into design has fostered resilience and determination. She mentions the challenges of imposter syndrome and the pressure of being a woman in the field. Teresa emphasizes the importance of knowing "when to quit or change jobs" to accelerate career progress.
Her career focus on building confidence inspired her to start "Creative Confidence," a video series with UK platform RightAligned. The series features conversations with creatives about overcoming self-doubt. Teresa believes in the "power of sharing stories" and that resilience and perspective are crucial to building confidence. She notes that "your work won’t be everyone’s cup of tea," but finding joy in creation is essential.
Now, as an independent consultant, Teresa explores her passion for branding by helping businesses make a positive impact. She believes in doing things that "bring you joy" to nurture creativity and maintain well-being.
We recently spoke with Teresa about her journey to independence and the significance of mentoring and self-kindness in her creative practice.
