Studio Monthly Roundup - December 2024

Nearly another year wrapped, and my goodness, has it been a massive one! Let’s take a moment for our monthly review to toast to the highs, reflect on the lows, and keep it real as we dive into what’s ahead.

The Highs

  • 💻 The Woofwolds website is LIVE (you can check it out here)! Launching it before the year’s end has been an absolute highlight, especially knowing it’s the first of many exciting projects in the pipeline for this amazing business. We’re buzzing with ideas for their next steps and couldn’t be prouder of this collaboration.

  • 🎄 Christmas dos with other freelancers/founders – This year, I was fortunate to sit at the table (literally) with some inspiring founders whom I’m glad to call my friends. We decided to make our own Christmas magic with festive meals that spark conversation, connection, and a dose of holiday cheer. It’s true what they say—your vibe attracts your tribe, and I feel so grateful for this one.

  • 🫶 Happy clients, lovely thank you notes – Nothing warms the cockles of my design-loving heart quite like receiving thoughtful notes from happy clients. Whether it’s a handwritten card or a shoutout on LinkedIn, these small moments of gratitude remind me why we do what we do.

The Lows

  • 👀 Hiring is hard. Full stop. Finding someone who aligns with your values and brings that magic mix of skills is no small feat. This month, we learned the hard way after a rocky start with a developer. But, in a plot twist, we found someone who swooped in like a hero, restructuring and rebuilding a project with clarity and precision.

This journey reminded me of an important truth: every misstep is a step forward when you reflect, learn, and pivot. A recent piece from Harvard Business Review about “What to Do When You’ve Hired the Wrong Person” might resonate with anyone navigating similar waters. It’s worth a read for tips on course-correcting with grace (here’s the link).

Also, if you’re into podcasts, I’d recommend Simon Sinek’s episode on “The Infinite Game,” which discusses how adopting a long-term perspective can help you weather these tricky moments. It’s been my soundtrack for resilience this month.

  • 📊 Goal setting for 2025 – December is flying by, and with so much on the go, our usual end-of-year vision-setting hasn’t found its groove. We’re keeping it real: between Christmas and New Year, we’ll be carving out time to brainstorm, strategise, and map out our big 2025 dreams. Here’s to a productive planning sprint fuelled by mince pies and probably a lot of coffee (or matcha!🍵)

  • 💪 Injuries and sick notes – Ah, life’s curveballs. This month brought a broken elbow and hospital appointments, all while juggling deadlines. When my doctor suggested I “take time off,” I could only laugh—founders don’t clock out… But hey, work-life balance is a work in progress, and while I haven’t nailed it yet, I’m trying.

    Looking ahead 👀

December is typically a quieter month for us, but this year, it’s shaping up differently. With projects in full swing and workflows to refine, we’re closing 2024 with gratitude, determination, and a twinkle of optimism. Onward to bigger things in 2025!

    Warmly,
    The Ferrgood Studio Team
